Bradd Westmoreland’s new exhibition of paintings play with the contrast in atmosphere, light and mood during different times of the day. Rather than merely representing figures or objects within spaces, Westmoreland constructs colourful dreamlike narratives that draw upon the formal elements of painting. It’s as if his figures live in their own time, in their own world.
The artist explains:
“With this body of work, I was deliberately looking at painting both day and night. I’m interested in the way days and nights sometimes just seem to blend into each other."
Bradd Westmoreland’s work has become highly sought after. His work is held in the collection of the British Museum, The National Gallery of Victoria and numerous private collections internationally and within Australia.
